The Shevchenko Museum cordially invites the public to join the online lecture “The Search for a Ukrainian Style by the Artist Amvrosii Zhdakha,” dedicated to the creative legacy of one of the most intriguing Ukrainian artists of the early 20th century. The event offers a fresh perspective on the formation of Ukrainian artistic identity and Zhdakha’s role in shaping a national visual style.
Amvrosii Zhdakha — artist, graphic designer, illustrator, and ethnographer — left a significant mark on Ukraine’s visual culture. His work blends deep knowledge of folk traditions, careful study of historical sources, and bold artistic experimentation. The lecture will explore how Zhdakha sought and developed his own concept of a Ukrainian style through ornamentation, costume studies, book illustration, and historical themes.
