A Ukrainian-language film of 1964, with English subtitles, about the life of Taras Shevchenko, directed by Volodymyr Denysenko for the Dovzhenko Studio, starring Ivan Mykolaichuk.
The film examines the deep inner state of the young poet-artist, exiled by tsarist authorities to a remote military fortress. Banned from writing and drawing, Taras reflects on the fate of his people with hope and longing for the freedom and national liberation of Ukraine.
