“Shchedryk” is a historical drama that takes place in Ivano-Frankivsk during the Second World War, where three families – Polish, Ukrainian, and Jewish – share a large house in the city of Stanislaviv. The families must band together to survive when their peaceful and neighbourly existence is shattered by the occupation. The famous Carol of the Bells, adapted from a popular and beloved Ukrainian folk melody that turns 100-years-old in 2022, becomes a symbol of goodness and light for the families and keeps the Christmas spirit alive even in the hardest times.
It is the honour of the Shevchenko Museum to present “Shchedryk”, in cooperation with the film’s Director, Olesya Morgunets-Isayenko. This special viewing coincides with the film’s Ukrainian theatrical release and features a special message from Morgunets-Isayenko herself. Please join us at the Shevchenko Museum as we celebrate the melody that has come to represent the spirit of brotherhood and unity all over the world.
